Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students taking large entry-level courses. SI is provided for all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and improve their grades.

Attendance at SI sessions is voluntary. For the students, it's a chance to get together with people in their class to compare notes, discuss important concepts, to develop strategies, and to test themselves before class exams are given. During each SI session the students are guided through the material by the SI leader, a experienced student who has previously taken the course.

When students attend SI sessions regularly, they have a higher chance of developing a better understanding of the course content and learn more effective ways of studying. This helps students not only in the class for which the SI session is offered, but in other courses as well.

SI sessions vary per semester depending on availability of SI leaders and demand for Supplemental Instruction of a given course. For any students or professors wanting to know more about SI, please contact Leticia B. Villarreal , Senior Intervention Specialist at 825-5933.
