The TLC offers a wide variety of services and all students are encouraged to take advantage of them. These programs are designed to improve the retention and graduation rates of University students. The TLC's primary service is peer tutoring which provides free academic assistance to students. The mission of the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) is to help students develop the skills necessary to be successful learners through the creation of a supportive learning environment that fosters intellectual growth. In the supportive environment of the TLC, students work collaboratively to achieve academic success by gaining an understanding of their learning styles and by mastering learning strategies. Our goal is to help unprepared students to prepare, prepared students to advance, and advanced students to excel. Peer tutoring is the Tutoring and Learning Center's primary service. Tutors assist students with questions and difficulties in a wide variety of different courses and subject matters. This tutoring is usually done in the tutoring area of the TLC offices, located on the second floor of the Bell Library, room 216D, the TLC Math Lab located in room 219 and the Science Lab located in room 218. Occasionally, tutoring sessions will be held at other locations on campus for the students' convenience and will be noted on schedules for that course. Students who wish to receive tutoring usually do not need to make an appointment, although tutors of certain subjects, like writing, suggest that you do. Most tutoring is done on a walk-in basis. Courses and subjects that are supported by the TLC vary from semester to semester depending of the availability of qualified tutors. The TLC offers assistance to THEA liable and at-risk students The TLC houses a computer lab with print stations and scanners. Each computer runs Microsoft Office and software used in many TAMUCC classes, such as My Math Lab and Gold Run. Sorry No Macs are available. |
